The Danger of No Reservations' Food Porn Specials

It was a gloomy, overcast Sunday.  What's a girl to do but catch up on some random Netflix options of Easy A, Lie to Me and No Reservations?  Thoughts of venturing to the gym slipped away as the lure of the magical flatscreen lulled me into submission. I had already seen many of the No Reservations episodes over the years but what's this?  Food Porn and Food Porn 2 episodes?  Um...ok.
Maybe it was his snarky commentary or the cheesy 70s background music, but I think Tony's voice lured my boyfriend over to watch some of the Food Porn specials with me.  We learned about magical food wonders like sushi at Sushi Yasuda; prime rib; bbq at RUB; artisanal cheese; pho in Vietnam; and Chefs David Chang, Eric Ripert and Daniel Boulud.  Very informative, and almost torturous as our stomachs grumbled and none of those delights were hiding out in our kitchen, only vegetables.
Feeling bad, I stopped off at Whole Foods after work last night to pick up something to quell the boyfriend's craving for a good steak.  Yes, Ray's the Steaks in Courthouse is tempting, but there's something wonderful about Japanese-style steak dinners at home.  I'm woefully out of practice for grilling meat, but I was determined.
My underutilized Le Creuset grill pan.
(The Le Creuset outlet store in Leesburg sometimes has fantastic deals.  I definitely did not pay the suggested retail price of $125 for this.)  Epicurious told me to heat the grill pan on medium-high heat, coat with oil and sear 5 minutes each side.  Who am I to argue with the internet home of Gourmet and Bon Appetit?
Japanese-style Steak Dinner.
Porterhouse steak cooked medium-rare.  Ingen no goma-ae, kimchi, moyashi, daikon oroshi with Ponzu sauce and the sauce that beats all others: ninniku oroshi with shoyu.  Grated raw garlic and soy sauce makes a fantastic steak dipping sauce.  Grated raw daikon radish with the citrus-soy Ponzu sauce is another nice dipping option.

Today's Steak Lunch Bento.
Kimchi, green beans, bean sprouts and sliced NY strip steak on top of rice.
