The Mighty Macallan

There are many things I love about living in DC.  A definite perk is the availability of food and beverage tasting events.  Some are super casual, like a distributor pouring tastes at a wine shop.  Others are more elaborate events at restaurants paired with multi-course meals.  One of my favorite is the free Macallan scotch tasting event. http://www.themacallan.com/home.aspx It's informative and all of the Brand Ambassadors even tweet their whereabouts http://twitter.com/livingthedram.  When you arrive, you receive a golden coin to trade for a tasting glass of Macallan 10.  Ladies in black attempted to circulate the crowded lobby with small bites including caprese skewers, mini cheeseburgers, and something indistinguishable in triangle shapes.  Once the velvet ropes are moved, we entered the main room and were directed to small tables for the presentation and tasting.
Macallan Brand Ambassador, Graeme Russell, explaining some key facts about single malt scotch.
Macallan scotch is mostly aged in oak barrels first used in Spain for sherry production.
Some American bourbon barrels are also being used for the fine oak products.

The previous Macallan event I attended in Georgetown (with the same Brand Ambassador) included the Macallan 21 and a parting gift of a Macallan etched glass.  This time around it was a little underwhelming in comparison.  We did not taste the 21 and there was less focus on the notes or tasting profiles compared to the Johnnie Walker event a few weeks ago.
