I've gone to Rays the Steaks since it opened up in Rosslyn in 2002, although much less frequently since it became incredibly popular and difficult to get a reservation. For a good steak at a remarkable price, it really is hard to beat any of the Rays restaurants. In 2012, RTS expanded next door and opened up Retro Rays, a 50-seat walk-in only restaurant opened Tuesday-Saturday for dinner. When my sweet fiance got a well-deserved promotion, we went out to celebrate. Unfortunately RTS was a 2-hour wait, but we got a seat at Retro Rays. Retro Rays' menu is the RTS menu from 2005, including the 2005 prices.
Crab Bisque
Super rich and creamy, although with less lump crab meat than previous RTS visits.
The Cowboy
Bone-in Rib Steak with onion and horseradish cream.
Filet Mignon with Brandy Mushroom Cream Sauce
***
With the free sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, plus and extra side of broccoli, this was a fantastic, spur-of-the-moment celebratory dinner. The 50-seat restaurant was a little understaffed, with only two waiters, a bartender and one person running food. The service is a little more hurried and casual than RTS, but the steaks are still a great quality and price.
